Summary (from Goodreads):

Round One, FLIRT

Sonya Black never expected a petty sibling quarrel could lead to her sister being drugged. Overcome with guilt, Sonya vows to bring the jerk to justice. When she dives into her own investigation, she lands belly up in the company of Jaxon Nyles, the security guard who may have all the answers.

But being a detective isn’t as easy as Sonya thinks. On top of that, Jaxon always seems to be in the right place at the right time. Is he a suspect, or is he falling for her? More important, is she falling for him?

The round has begun. Who will flirt? Who will win? Will hearts break in the process?

This book was a cute, light read. I enjoyed this book. It's the third book in a series, but it read as a stand alone. I didn't know that it was a series. It seems that the other two are about different members of the friend group of the main character. The group reminds me of my sister's group of friends. They all sit around and play video games and such. I call them the Nerd Herd.

Sonya Black is home for Thanksgiving break from college and just wants to play video games with her friends. She's got it all planned out and it's gonna be great. But then her sister comes home and all her plans go out the window. After a brief argument, her sister storms out of the house to go to a club and winds up getting drugged. She goes to the club to pick up her sister and meets Jaxon, the attractive club worker who called Sonya about her sister. Sonya feels responsible and takes it upon herself to figure out who the drugger is.

Sonya Black is an interesting main character. She's super geeky and loves video games and seems to be the best gamer out of her friend group. She does not get along with her family at all, especially when her sister is around because they all seem to gang up on her for the dumbest things and I wanted to punt all of them right out of this book. She probably doesn't handle her problems in the most efficient way, but I can't say that I would handle them any differently if I were her. She has her heart in the right place, but she is most definitely not a detective. She seems to be a really good friend. But I thought that she seemed really judge-y toward her friend Parker and that bugged me. And there was one part in this book that I can't talk about for fear of spoilers, but Sonya REALLY annoyed the crap out of me, but in general, she's not a bad character. I wouldn't mind having her as a friend. Only if she let me win at video games every now and then.

Jaxon was probably my favorite character in this book. He was super sweet and treated Sonya really well. He enjoys a lot of the same things as Sonya does so they make a really good match. He's competitive like her and they like the same games. I feel like you don't really get to know him all that well in this book besides that, but I still really liked him.

The rest of Sonya's friends seem really nice. Dawn struck me as really odd, but she has Sonya's best interest at heart. Parker is odd in a different way, but it was kind of really endearing. I don't really have much of an opinion on the rest of her friends because you don't see that much of them. Also, I didn't like her family as I mentioned, but that's all I want to say on the subject because they made me angry.

The romance in this book is cute. I like Jaxon and Sonya together. They are a sweet match.

I feel like the plot of this book didn't revolve around Sonya's sleuthing as much as the summary would have you believe. And she is kind of a terrible detective. She never really accomplishes anything when she goes back to the club to look for clues. And I don't know where she gets some of the ideas she comes up with, but she tries. Like I said, her heart is in the right place. I feel like a majority of this book seems to be detailed descriptions of gameplay. Which, I really enjoy video games and watching people play video games so this doesn't bother me. It gave parts of this book almost a fantasy feel.

If I had to make any complaints, I would say that the dialogue of some of the characters didn't feel believable to me. Some of it was a bit too out there for me, but really it's nothing bad, mostly a personal preference probably. OH! And every time Sonya has to go into the club for her detective work or when she picked her sister up, she seems to have flashbacks to an awful club experience. She gets really nervous and worked up, but you NEVER get to find out what that experience was and I wanted to know! Now that I think about it, maybe it's mentioned in a previous book in this series? May have to look into that.

Overall, I might  recommend this book to avid video game players and people who are into more contemporary novels. It was a fairly quick read and I enjoyed it. It takes a really special contemporary to get me really into it, but this one was was fun.
