Unpopular Opinion

Monday, August 31, 2015

I am going to do the Unpopular Opinion book tag that was created by The Book Archer. I wasn't tagged or anything, but I'm gonna do it anyway. And I'm probably not gonna tag anyone either because I don't wish to annoy anyone! I feel like this is kinda repetitive to things I've posted before, but maybe you're a new reader and don't know this about my reading preferences.

I saw this tag on The Reading Petal.

A POPULAR BOOK OR SERIES THAT YOU DIDN'T LIKE:

Everyone and their dog seems to love Shatter Me, but I could NOT deal with all the strikethroughs and things getting repeated three times three times three times. And the RIDICULOUS descriptions and such. I was prepared to love this series (since everyone else does), but I just could not do it.

I liked the first three books of The Mortal Instruments series. But after that, I think that it was just pointless to keep that series going. The last three books were terrible and I never want to read about another vampire or werewolf or shadowhunter ever again.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer I liked at first. But as it kept going, I thought it got kinda ridiculous and I was just over it.

A POPULAR BOOK SERIES THAT EVERYONE HATES BUT YOU LOVE:

When I picked this up, I hadn't really read any good reviews on it, but it really seemed interesting to me so I got it anyway and I LOVED it! But I haven't really found very many people who share my love for this book.

A LOVE TRIANGLE WHERE THE MAIN CHARACTER ENDED UP WITH THE PERSON YOU DID NOT WANT THEM TO END UP WITH:

I don't know that this book really fits in this category. But it's the best that I can come up with because I feel like I am usually good at liking the right person. Like she didn't end up with who I wanted her to be with throughout the whole book, but that's totally a good thing in the end and I'm glad she didn't!

A POPULAR GENRE YOU HARDLY EVER REACH FOR:

I'm not much of a contemporary fan. The real world is too boring for me to want to read about generally.

A POPULAR OR BELOVED CHARACTER YOU DID NOT LIKE:

Rhysand from A Court of Thorns and Roses
Warner from Shatter Me
See tomorrow's Top Ten Tuesday post for more details!

A POPULAR AUTHOR YOU CAN'T SEEM TO GET INTO:

The first John Green book I read was Looking for Alaska, which I liked. Then I read The Fault in Our Stars, which I bawled like a total baby for the entire second half of the book. Then I read Paper Towns and An Abundance of Katherines and I decided that John Green wasn't for me. Everytime I read one of his books I want to scream, "NO ONE TALKS LIKE THAT!!!!!!!!!" Also, if I hear the name Margo Roth Spiegelman one more time, I will explode from anger because who in this world constantly refers to someone by their full name every. single. time. they are mentioned?! NO ONE! I could have loved all of his books, but I couldn't stand the way the characters talked. Any of them. So annoying.

A POPULAR BOOK TROPE YOU ARE TIRED OF SEEING:

I probably would have said love triangles, but all the other unpopular opinion book tags I just looked up all had it so according to this list I am looking up on google, I am going to say:

1. Alternating POVs. I hate them.
2. Girl who thinks she's so plain and boring, but obviously you know she's not.

A POPULAR SERIES THAT YOU HAVE NO INTEREST IN READING:

No more Shadowhunters for me. Ever.

A SHOW/MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU LIKE BETTER THAN THE BOOK:

Basically I think this show is mostly BS. But I watched ALL OF IT. And I only read one of the books after I started watching the show and then I figured out how many books there were in the series and I was like nah.

So there you have it! If anyone sees this and wants to do it, link me to your post! I would love to see it!

  1. I'm glad you decided to do the tag :D. I liked everything about Delirium, except for the ending. I was so upset by it that I ended up not continuing on with the series. I also hate when the MC thinks she is plain and boring. It's in almost every YA book. Stop complaining about your thin frame and big eyes. I don’t feel sorry for you. lol

    1. The ending of Delirium was SO SAD AND AWFUL! But I gotta say that the ending of Requiem worse because NO CLOSURE! And why can't all these main characters just embrace how they look? We can't all be super gorgeous, but we can talk about what we have going for us rather than describe everything about how plain we are! I'm glad I saw you do this tag, it was fun!

    2. Yes, I've heard that the ending to Requiem was open ended. I find Lauren Oliver does that a lot in her books.

    3. It's okay in some of them like where there's not some big rebellion and a whole government to take down and then there's no closure to know if they succeeded in their mission or failed horribly! So unfair!

  2. I agree with so much of your list. I also loved Delirium. The first book was one of my favorite reads that year. Have you read the other two? I agree about The Red Queen. I was never 100% sure who to ship, but I'm glad she ended up with who she did. THANK YOU. Everyone gushes over Warner, and just no. Ugh. The "Girl who thinks she's so plain and boring, but obviously you know she's not" trope is the worst. Especially the supposedly plain and boring girl always has at least two impossibly hot guys in love with her. Riiiight.

I love this tag! It's so much fun to see what everyone thinks. :)

    1. I did read the rest of the delirium series! I read delirium in one sitting and NEARLY drove back to Walmart (half hour drive) in the middle of the night to buy the second book! I was SO sure who I wanted Mare with in Red Queen, but I've never been so wrong! Warner was my main reason for not finishing shatter me. I found out he was the one and I was like nah. I loved doing this tag! So fun!

  3. Ooh, these opinions are EXTREMELY unpopular. The only thing that I could possibly agree with is Red Queen. MAAVEEN! I loved that boy SO much, and in the end...I can't even...ugh. (Weirdly, I still ship them.Yes, I'm crazy like that.)

    1. I don't know how I feel about the potential ships in that Red Queen now. I still want them together because he always seemed so nice, but at the same time not! But yeah, I see everyone constantly raving about these things and I'm like lol disagree.
