Discussion: Blog Related Social Media

Thursday, December 3, 2015

For this week's discussion post, I'm wondering about social media! Specifically, what other forms of social media do you use that are blogging/book related?

First of all, I'm going to talk about Goodreads! That is probably one of the most obvious social media accounts to have related to your blog, I would feel. I would like to become a more consistent user of Goodreads! I go through phases where I'll be really good about updating it. Like most of this year I was pretty good about updating the books I've read until I finished my goodreads challenge. Everytime I get really into it, I just find it such a daunting task because I really want to give my shelves some semblance of organization. But once you start this with no organization, it's hard to get it that way! What are some shelves you think are important to have on Goodreads? I really don't have that many yet! You can follow me if you want, I like friends (X).
Then there's the other important one, Twitter! When I first started using Twitter in high school, I mostly used it to angry tweet about annoying customers at the grocery store I worked at for five years! Then I mostly stopped using it and deleted it. But then earlier this year I discovered he books for trade hashtag so I made a new account so I could trade! I was kinda surprised when people actually traded with me because that was all I had on my account and people seem to find that sketchy. But I'm glad they didnt find me sketchy. Shortly after that, I finally made the plunge and started my blog! So now I actually use my Twitter! I love all the chats and other fun projects people advertise! If you're for any reason not following me, I'm @cyraschaefer if you want to!

I also recently made a Facebook page for my blog. I guess I don't really know why this one is a thing. But I did it! I haven't really done much with Facebook except add all my posts from the month of November so far and bully my friends and family into liking it. And only 6 people have allowed me to bully them into it. If you're interested in following my blog on Facebook, it's Rattle the Pages!

Also a recent addition to my social media arsenal is Instagram! I love Instagram so much! I followed a lot of bloggers on my personal account (cyraschaefer), but now I have created one solely for books and blogging (rattlethepages). Some of the people who are bookstagrammers are SO talented! I hope that I can get to be that talented with my bookish pictures! I really love photography, but I'm not wonderful with object photography yet. I hope that Instagram gets with the times and lets you easily switch between accounts because I feel like if I have to keep logging in and out, I'm going to quickly start neglecting one of my accounts and I don't want that! If you want to follow me on Instagram, I'll love you forever!

Oh yeah! And there's Bloglovin! I have a link to mine in my sidebar! I haven't really used Bloglovin' beyond setting it up and following a bunch of people. I should utilize it more, I feel like I'd see more interesting posts if I used it. I just haven't really gotten into it yet!

Are there any other social media forms that you use? Any that you would suggest I get? Any that I have that you find completely useless? I'd love to hear thoughts and opinions! And I'd love links to your blog related social media accounts so I can follow them!

  1. Great post! Twitter chats are definitely a great way to get connected with other bloggers. The only problem I have is I sometimes don't know about them until they're finished! XD

    1. I have the same problem! I know about the ones that I'm in notification groups for, but the other ones I find late or just by the hair on my chinny chin chin! Haha! I love twitter chats!

  2. Hmmm. For my blog, I have Goodreads, Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Bloglovin, Pinterest, Google Plus. So many social media accounts! I don't do Instagram. Hehe.

    Lovely post, Cyra!

    1. I still get overwhelmed when I go on Pinterest! I love it, but there's SO MUCH STUFF ON THERE! And I mostly go on it for recipes! I might have to consider a blog pinterest board!
