Down the TBR Hole (#1)

Sunday, January 8, 2017

Down the TBR Hole is a meme type thing started by Imaginary Places on Paper to help cut down your Goodreads TBR.

This is how it works:

  • Go to your goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?
Repeat this every week until your TBR is cleaned off!

I'm going to be adventurous and do it ten at a time! Here are the first ten I have to decide on:

Meant To Be by Lauren Morrill

I have had this book on my Goodreads shelf since 2012. I am not an enormous fan of contemporary novels so I'm really not that psyched to read it anymore. I have a copy and I will probably read it someday because it sounds cute. But I don't think it's urgent enough to keep on my TBR.

Verdict: Removed

The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

This is a book I pretty much bought just because it's by J.K. Rowling. It is another book that I actually have a copy of, but don't know if I'll ever actually read it. I started it once, but didn't make it very far. I think I'll have to really be in the right mood to ever get this book read.

Verdict: Removed

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

This book sounds really good. It has been on my Goodreads TBR since 2012 and I haven't gotten around to it, but I still think it sounds so good. The cover is also super pretty. Hopefully if I keep it on my list, it will light a fire under my butt to get it read.

Verdict: Keep

Graceling by Kristin Cashore

Yet another book that I own and has been on my TBR for YEARS! This one I am definitely going to get around to reading. When I'll get to it, I don't know. But I have heard so many good things about this series!

Verdict: Keep

Wither by Lauren DeStefano

I am really torn on this one. I own this whole series and I think it sounds really interesting. But I remember recently this author was really awful to someone or something and I decided I didn't really wanna support her. I don't remember exactly the incident, but I immediately put these books in my trade pile. I might still read them since I already have them, but just not buy any more of her books.

Verdict: Tentatively Keep

Shades of Earth by Beth Revis
Across the Universe #3

Since I have not actually read the first one yet and don't know if I'll actually for sure like it, I probably don't need the sequel clogging up my TBR, especially since I don't even own it.

Verdict: Remove

Liesl & Po by Lauren Oliver

Lauren Oliver is one of my auto buy authors for her YA books. I am interested in reading this book of hers, but not so interested that I would make it a priority.

Verdict: Remove

The Spindlers by Lauren Oliver

Once again, love Lauren Oliver, still probably won't make this particular book a priority.

Verdict: Remove

Incarnate by Jody Meadows
Newsoul #1

I loved The Orphan Queen by Jodi. So far it's the only book of hers that I've read, but I definitely plan to try this series. I have the first two books and I'm basically just waiting until I get the third book so that I can binge the whole series.

Verdict: Keep

The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

I have finally read started reading some of Maggie's books and I absolutely loved them. I have heard really good things about this book as well AND I have a copy of it so I will definitely be reading it!

Verdict: Keep

Starting TBR #: 436
Now: 431

What do you think of my choices? Have you read any of these books? Would you have kept any of the ones I removed or removed any I kept?

  1. Isn't this meme fabu!ous? Which reminds me, I have to do another one. You did great! Much better than I did. Ha ha. Lauren has been mean and awful to a lot of people! I read the Chemical Garden tri!ogy and the first book of her Perfect Ruin trilogy before I started following her on Twitter. I hate what she says to people so much that I have her blocked now because I don't even want to see other people's RTs of her. Ugh. The Chemical Gardens trilogy is really good and as long as you already have it, you should read it, but I'm with you... I will not buy or promote any of her books now. I do want to see how the Perfect Ruin trilogy ends though, but I will borrow it from the library. The Across the Universe books are wonderful. I am really happy you have started reading Maggie Stiefvator!

  2. This meme sounds so great! I may have to join in on it because I have way too many books on my shelves. I personally LOVE the Across the Universe series and I also really liked Wither. They're original dystopians for me. I love the worlds in them, so I'm glad you're keeping those! I tried Incarnate and wasn't the biggest fan of it. I never even got through The Scorpio Races. I just wasn't really into the story that much, which is sad because I'm a huge fan of Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver series and I'm currently reading her Raven Cycle series. Her writing style is seriously amazing and so immersive. Graceling was also a really good read! I still haven't read the companion novels though.

  3. This is an interesting idea! I am wondering if it could help me at all since my TBR is already really curated (down to like 108 I think?). I support all of the books you chose to keep. Solid decisions abound!

  4. I also started the Casual Vacancy once and did not like it at all, so I DNFed it. I think you make good choices :D Purging your TBR is so liberating!
