Discussion: New Year's Resolutions

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!

Today for my discussion post, I am going to share with you my resolutions!

My goal for making my resolutions this year was to find ways to make them more doable because I honestly never stick to my resolutions. This year was the first year that I ever actually accomplished a goal I set for myself at the beginning of the year!

The one goal that I actually met for 2015 was reading 50 books. I made at least 2-3 other resolutions to myself, HA!

Anyway so these are my goals for 2016!!

1. First, since this is my book blog, I will mention my reading goal for 2016. I am going to challenge myself to read 75 books this year! This will be my third time giving myself a yearly reading goal. I've only met it once and that was this year. I SHATTERED my 50 book goal! The first time I made a goal, I think I was like 4 books short. It was purely extreme laziness that kept me from my goal that year. I think this year I read 80 something books. So I think that 75 will easily be doable.

2. Next is the resolution I have the HARDEST time with every year! I want to get healthier! But instead of telling myself I'm going to just give up everything and start eating healthier and exercising, every month I'm going to give myself the goal of cutting out a junk food or bad habit or starting a good habit or something. For example, I have begun to drink a lot of pop. So for January, I think I'm going to cut a lot of that pop out of my diet. I'm not going to force myself to just stop drinking it all together because I love me a nice, cold wild cherry Pepsi every now and then. But instead of going out and buying one everyday on my lunch break from work, maybe I'll just pick one up as a treat when I go grocery shopping or something. I don't really drink a lot of pop when I go out to eat, I usually order lemonade (probably not much better, but still not pop). So I think that if I go about this resolution like that, it will be more doable.

Other things I want to give up: potato chips and ice cream ( :'(  ).

3. My final 2016 New Year's resolution is to be smarter about how I spend my money. I really had to change things in the last few months because my hours got cut back quite a bit at work after a few of our bigger clients left us. It really sucked that it had to be right when I would normally start doing my Christmas shopping and I was struggling to just get all of my bills paid. I even had to empty my piggy bank to finish paying the bills one week!

Maybe I will write down every time I spend money or something so then I will have that note and I can look at it at the end of each month and be like, 'Really Cyra? Was that totally necessary? Have you even TOUCHED that since you bought it??'

But basically, I want to be smarter about my money without having to give up buying books or cutting back when I buy people gifts (I like to go all out).

So yeah, those are my resolutions for the new year! Do you think they're doable or am I a total nut? What are YOUR resolutions for 2016? I'd love to hear about them!

  1. These are totally doable! I support you :)
Mine are similar- I want to read 50 books, be healthier (doing more yoga or walking longer), cook more rather than spend money eating out!

    1. Those are good resolutions! I think that I want to incorporate yoga or something! I like walking, but I don't really like walking by myself, but there's no one around here that wants to walk with me. :( I want to cook more too. Maybe I'll get good at it! Haha!

  2. I think these are great plans! Mine are much less concrete which hopefully won't trip me up too much.

In terms of the money resolution, I'd also recommend you check out The Financial Diet (http://thefinancialdiet.com/) which has a lot of useful posts on money practices and ways to save.

    1. I hope mine don't trip me up either! So far, I'm not doing so hot on giving up pop. But I am now out of change from the bottom of my purse so things should be getting better there! Thanks for the tip on the financial diet! That's really helpful! :)
