Today I'm gonna write about some of the books that I've read that everyone absolutely raves about that just did not do it for me. At all.
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
This is the #1 book that I can think of that I just did not like. And EVERYONE on the face of the planet seems to love it! I SERIOUSLY do not understand. It was so highly recommended by everyone and it sounded so interesting, so I bought this and Destroy Me when they were both super cheap for my Nook.
I am honestly unsure of how I even finished these. I hated all the strikethroughs. I hated the parts that were repeated three times all over the place in this book. I hated all the metaphors that made literally no sense whatsoever. I hated Warner.
I read a lot of spoilers on these books after finishing this to see if it would be worth continuing and as soon as I saw that Warner was going to be the love interest, I decided NAH. Warner is AWFUL! He's mean! He's just plain gross!!!
The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
This one... I just read my review for it on goodreads and I just wrote, "I finished this book and I'm just so confused about the whole thing. I don't even know."
First of all, the back of the book claims this to be about an epic duel between two magicians... An epic duel that's supposed to be to the death I think. This 'epic' duel lasts like 16 years and neither one of them dies (I don't think?) and they work together with their magic to make attractions for this circus...
And it's supposed to be a love story? But it's like the most boring love story on the face of the entire planet...
The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare
I really liked the first three books in this series. Well, maybe I didn't REALLY like them, but I liked them well enough to keep reading. They should have ended after the third one. That would have been a good ending. And the whole brother/sister thing could have been cut out, but whatever.
I absolutely hated the last three books in this series though. I don't even really remember what happens, I just remember that I bought these all on my Nook and one of them was more expensive on there than the hardcover was on Amazon... Anyway, City of Heavenly Fire was by far my least favorite. By that point I was only still reading because I had already put so much time and effort into the rest of them. I hated all the new characters that were in there only because they were the characters the next Shadowhunter disaster is going to revolve around. They really didn't add anything terribly important to this story as far as I can remember. I didn't give a crap about them, I barely gave a crap about the characters I'd been reading about for six books.
And as much as the other Shadowhunter series is talked up, I don't think that I'll be diving into that adventure anytime soon. Or ever. I'm over Shadowhunters.
Also, this is the book that started my pet peeve of characters having like a thousand different names. WHO ARE YOU REALLY?
Amelia Anne is Dead and Gone by Kat Rosenfield
This actually isn't a book that everyone seemed to love. It's just one that I didn't like. I'd never heard anything about this book from anyone ever. I just saw it at the bookstore and thought it was pretty and sounded good... Naaaah.
I didn't like the main character. I didn't like the town this was set in. I didn't like the people of that town. I didn't like all the super lengthy, repetitive descriptions of EVERYTHING! I mean, at first I thought they were nice and sounded super pretty, but when every single thing was described like that, I just was over it.
The only thing I liked about this book was the parts about Amelia and what happened to her. She was literally the only character I liked. And she's obviously dead and gone.
I just got sick of reading this book...
Anyway, what are some books that everyone seems to love that you just couldn't stand?! :)
Also, does anyone else go through and read all the negative reviews on a book they don't like? I always do this. If I hate it, I read all the negative comments.
